General: Biennial herb from a simple or sometimes branched stem-base; stems erect, stout, 5-45 cm tall, simple or branched above, ash grey with a close hairiness.
Leaves: Basal leaves thick, firm, numerous, more or less in a rosette, oblanceolate, wavy-toothed, stalked, 3-10 cm long, (2) 4-13 (25) mm wide, sharp-pointed at the tips, densely grey-hairy mainly with 2-rayed hairs; stem leaves narrowly lanceolate, entire to somewhat toothed.
Flowers: Racemes bractless, 4-40 cm long; flower stalks 5-15 (20) mm long, stiffly erect or spreading; petals bright yellow to deep orange or somewhat reddish, 13-32 mm long, blades 4-8 (9) mm wide; sepals (6) 8-13 mm long, outer ones with a pouch at the base.
Fruits: Siliques, (3) 5-11 (14) cm long, 1.3-2.7 mm wide, round in cross section to flattened; beaks 1-5 mm long, beak-like; seeds 1.5-2.3 mm long, wingless or slightly wing-margined at tip.
